According to several news agencies, Toyota has recently reported that it’s planning on unveiling its new advanced research vehicle and it will be doing so on the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that will be happening in January.

The news agencies covering this story have reported that this research vehicle may be equipped with the autonomous system, which hasn’t been confirmed by the company as of now. Experts believe that the vehicle will be equipped with the technology because the vice president of the luxury brand Lexus will be present to talk about the advanced autonomous car technology while presenting the new Lexus LS model, which is equipped with the most advanced pre-collision safety system in the world.

Volvo Trucks North America has issued a recall for all units of the 2013 VHD, VNL and VNM models of trucks due to an issue with the vehicle’s steel wheels that could cause them to become separated unexpectedly.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has reported that all 2,905 units of these trucks were equipped with inadequately welded steel disc and rims, causing the components to become prone to failure.

The federal agency stated that all recalled vehicles will have all issues promptly repaired for free.

According to a recent article, some of most popular cars in America haven’t performed as some expected in recent crash tests performed by the auto safety group known as the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The reports indicate that out of 18 midsize family vehicles, 13 obtained good safety ratings in a new test that recreates a frontal collision to verify how safe the vehicle would keep passengers if the car were to crash into a pole or a tree.

The reports indicate that Toyota’s Camry and Prius v hybrid wagon did not obtain good safety ratings in the tests performed by the auto safety group.
In the past, only two models out of eleven luxury models got good safety ratings.

According to recent reports, certain vehicles equipped with wheelchair lifts manufactured by GM and Ford are being recalled over a possible injury risk.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has reported that Creative Bus Sales, Inc. has issued a recall for all units of the 2006 through 2011 Chevrolet and GMC C5500, Ford E450 and Econoline 350 due to the fact these vehicles were equipped with potentially defective wheelchair lifts.

Wheelchair users could fall if the lifts are misaligned while the platform is being raised. To prevent injuries and keep passengers safe, the company has decided to issue this recall promptly.

Consumers affected by this recall will be notified by Creative Bus Sales, Inc. in the near future. All defective wheelchair lifts will be repaired for free.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has reported that the implementation of the mandate that would make all event data recorders required to be placed in all vehicles manufactured after September of 2014 will not violate the motorists’ privacy.

According to the news, the federal agency opposes to the idea of adding on and off switches that would allow the driver to turn the event data recorder on or off whenever he or she wishes. Although the call for the mandate is still being reviewed, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hopes to make the device a requirement for every new car in order to increase safety.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has tested 18 models of midsize family cars and according to the news, 13 models managed to get a good or acceptable rating in one of the most severe crash tests of all: the narrow offset test.

According to the news, the new test is performed by having the vehicle crash into a thin object that mimics a tree or a pole. This type of test hopes to verify if the vehicle is capable of keeping passengers safe if the car crashes into a pole while traveling at 40 miles per hour.

According to the firm, these vehicles may have been manufactured without the secondary hood latch, which could pose a risk in case the primary latch is not engaged properly. According to the firm, if the latch is not engaged, the hood could open unexpectedly and pose a visibility issue to the driver.
