Auto Injustry, Safety Advocates Debate Mandatory Event Data Recorders

Although the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has proposed the implementation of event data recorders as mandatory for all new cars by 2014, the new regulation hasn’t yet taken place, reports show.

According to several articles, the devices known as black boxes have also been a focus in National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s discussions regarding auto safety and crash prevention efforts. Multiple critics believe that this proposal has already been approved by the White House, however, the mandatory regulation must first be reviewed and approved by the Office of Management and Budget before the proposal turns into a reality.
