Potentially flammable chemicals are being used as coolants in certain General Motors vehicles, news agencies have reported.

According to the media, Daimler has announced its decision to stop using the HFO-1234yf coolant in new vehicles after some Mercedes-Benz vehicles equipped with the chemical were recalled over potential fire risks.

Since the coolant may be flammable, Mercedes-Benz is testing the coolant in order to obtain more details on exactly how risky it is to continue to use the chemical. Reports show that in spite of the risk, General Motors decided to wait on the tests being conducted by Mercedes-Benz to decide whether new vehicles will use the refrigerant HFO-1234yf.
