The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has tested 18 models of midsize family cars and according to the news, 13 models managed to get a good or acceptable rating in one of the most severe crash tests of all: the narrow offset test.

According to the news, the new test is performed by having the vehicle crash into a thin object that mimics a tree or a pole. This type of test hopes to verify if the vehicle is capable of keeping passengers safe if the car crashes into a pole while traveling at 40 miles per hour.
