In Maryland, an exemption to the requirement to sit in a car seat for children under 8 years old or under 4′ 9” who are over 65 lbs will be removed by a new law that went into effect on October 1st.

According to the news, the law was passed in April and is now intended to reduce the rate of neck and spinal injuries in children associated with car wrecks. Drivers will have to face a $50.00 fine for each child in a given vehicle who is not properly restrained, which can also apply to seatbelt laws.
