In Australia, a recent accident has raised concerns regarding the use of hand-me-down car safety seats.

According to the news, an eight-week-old baby was fatally wounded as a result of an accident that happened in December. Authorities say that the baby was placed in a hand-me-down car seat, however, official reports also show that the mother placed the child in the car safety seat wrapped in her blankets, which should not be done since the restraints fail to keep the child safe if there’s a thick layer of blankets around the toddler’s body.

Federal agents believe that because parents using hand-me-down car safety seats do not read the instruction manual, they might not be aware of the risks associated with the misuse of a car safety seat.
