Nitrogen is an inert gas, and in its commercially available pure form, it does not contain oxygen.

News reports show that, in theory, the nitrogen will displace several types of gas that normally cause some problems associated with the rotting of the rubber from the inside of the tire. Additionally, claims are made that the tire temperature is kept more stable if the driver fill his or her vehicle’s tires with nitrogen.

These claims are analyzed for accuracy and are disputed by several independent testing groups and their reports can be found in the article below.
