Several media outlets have issued reports on a new recall associated with Ford Fiesta models.

According to the news and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the 2011 through 2013 models of Ford Fiesta were equipped with airbag software that was designed to suppress the side curtain airbags in the event of an accident if the passenger seat is not occupied.

To keep the backseat passengers from being injured, the company will be resetting the system to allow the curtain side airbags to deploy even if the front passenger seat is not occupied. Ford will be notifying owners of the problem and dealers will be resetting the software for free in the near future.
