Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall statement regarding all units of the 2012 model year of the CLS550 and CLS550 4Matic vehicles over an issue with the vehicle’s secondary latch striker holding the hood.

These vehicles were manufactured with certain latch strikers that may have not been screwed up sufficiently. If the bolts become loose, the striker could also become loose and the function will eventually become ineffective.

If the primary hood lock fails and the bolts are loose, the component may open while the vehicle is being operated, which could increase the risk of an accident.

To prevent crashes and keep drivers and passengers safe, the company is issuing this recall announcement. The recall campaign is scheduled to begin in December 2012.
