The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has reported that it may be investigating certain models of Mercedes-Benz vehicles over a potential fuel leak issue.

The federal agency has stated that the 2003 through 2008 models of E-Class models have been linked to several consumer complaints. The federal agency stated that 533 complaints linked to strong gasoline odor were reported. Most cases reportedly occurred after drivers refueled their tanks.

This issue could be linked to a recall issued in 2008 due to pollution control.

The automaker is cooperating with the NHTSA in order to have the probe carried out efficiently. If a problem is identified, a recall announcement should be released in the near future.
